There was a group that was heading out for the Shell Rock Loop today at 11am which I would have been happy to do but have things to take care of this afternoon so I headed out on the loop alone at about 9:45. It was 34F when I left with the wind out of the east at ~10-15mph and around 40F with the same wind when I arrived back in town. Shaved over seven minutes off of my time from a
couple weeks ago which makes me feel good. I would like to shave off about 15-20 more minutes by the end of the season which I feel should be attainable. I am sure that
Kerkove and
JY will have write-ups of their ride sometime today too, probably even pictures or video.
Today was also the first real test of my new road tires. A set of
Continental GP4000s. I was previously running Continental Ultra 2000s which I realy like due to their inexpensive price, smooth roll, and long wear.
I am impressed so far with how the GP 4000s feel and they definately roll very smooth. Folding tire, MSRP of ~$55.00 ea., and the come in various colors. The ones I am running have a silver tread with black sidewalls but I am thinking that the ones with the red tread might be ultra-cool on my roadie. More to come after I log some mileage.
Since my father purchased a new wheelset yesterday, I decided to borrow his old wheels which are nothing special but I was just curious. The are the online-catalog special Weyless Korso wheels. I threw on my Ultegra 12-23 cassette and the GP 4000 tires and off I went. These wheels do not work any worse or better than my current wheels which aree also nothing to pretty. Shimano 2200 hubs with Mavuc CXP22 rims. Both are about the same weight weight and performance.
