I received an e-mail from
Blue a couple of days ago that he had a small package arrive at his house for me. As I mentioned in a previous post, I was still working on the gearing a bit with the final candidates being a solo gear of 42T up front or using a 39/44 or a 39/46. I have a 44 but technically it is drilled as a small ring but it can be made to work. I really wanted to go with a 39/46 but as it turns out, finding a 46T 130 BCD outer ring is quite a chore. I went through the catalogs at the shop and found nothing but, did find some
on the web here and there. The 42T solo ring with a cross guard was starting to really look like my only true option, and still may be an option come CX season in 2008. Then low and behold here I get a message that a 46T FSA had been located and is ready for pickup so I headed down to Blue's to see for myself. Mind you that there is no 46T 130 BCD Pro Road Chainring listed on the
FSA website or in any of the catalogs that I have access to, so I was a bit surprised.

46T...130 BCD...

39/46 gearing for the front will give me what I need for racing as well as a little bit for those days when I feel crazy enough to take it on the group rides....for a while...I hope.
I went with the
black chainring bolts too to keep the mostly black look on
Project X-Fire so that I can still consider myself part of the
"Kerkove Empire". All that's left are a
Thomson seatpost, canti brakes (undecided on which brand/model),
Campy derailleurs, cassette, and shifters. Might be some time before I get all of it though, hours are cut at the shop so my cash flow was just practically stopped stone cold. I am hoping to get enough together for the rest by February so that I can get
Project X-Fire
out for some late winter/early spring slop ridding.
