Team Untamed Adventure snagged 3rd place (2nd place in the premiere division) at the Tidewater Traverse this past weekend. Eric Cone and his team sponsored by a Richmond gear store (Yeren ???) got 2nd place (1st in the premiere division); Eric has been a vital part of the Untamed Adventure organizing team, and continues to be so for Untamed VA 2008, and so it's really cool to see him on the podium at the TT also! Apparently just 10 or 15 minutes separated all the lead teams so it was a dramatic finish -- good job to all you guys! It sounds like the course was fun and very challenging, so kudos to Pam and Mike on a job well done with the race! I understand the course ran through the Chickahominy WMA which is about 5,000 acres of god-forsaken bramble patches and swamp -- I had a love/hate relationship with that terrain during my stint in Hampton Roads so it's fun to hear about it some more. I think I came out with 10 ticks on me the first time I ever explored the Chick WMA, and that was in the Fall, so I'm sure the bugs were glad to see all the adventure racers.
I'll have an update to the Untamed Adventure team area that will include a write-up and photos from the race, inclusion of the newest team member Jason Reed, and some other fun things. I think Untamed Adv will be doing a talk or two at BRMS (Charlottesville through Virginia Beach) or REI/EMS (Wash DC Area) in advance of the Untamed Virginia race with topics ranging from Patagonia to New England and everything in between. Stay tuned for more!
In other news, across the Atlantic, I'm settling back into Zurich and itching to enjoy the Summer here. There's a rogaine in Davos next weekend that we're just about registered for (if my German was better, I would know for certain!). There's a 12-hour race south of Zurich that I may try to do -- I need to scare up a teammate and, gasp, get on some inline skates between now and then. That would be a spectacle, but hey it's about the only race around this summer so I have few options. We're also sizing up some venues to host Untamed Switzerland for 2009, and I've got my eye on the Stanserhorn right now:
