We’re off! Time to find out what this SS racing thing is all about. The training is done, the gear is set (I think), not much left to do but get to the start line at 5:30 AM. That’s early even for me…it’s only 55 miles not sure why so early. Gawd ignorance is bliss [...]

It’s almost March and everyone is getting their season plans in line. It’s high time I make an announcement on Trans Utah.
The route is massive. The long range plan is this:
fall ‘08 St George to Escalante or Big Water
fall ‘09 Escalante or ? to Moab
fall ‘10 St George to Moab
Originally it was going to be a [...]

2 min power is still heading in the right direction. 321w for me this week, which is another PR - nice…
Next week is Vision Quest. 56.5 miles with 11.5k of elevation gain - wow.
I’ve never ridden the course on my bike but there are some very cool pre-ride tools available for this one with gps [...]

It used to be so simple. Train, get as fast as you can, go to races, hammer yourself into a pulp, rest, repeat. Bike choice was more about HT vs. FS - the gearing always included an 11-34 on the back. There were some nutz riding bikes with only one gear, but man that was [...]

Brown made it out of the SLC snowdrift yesterday and dropped some Kona’s at DC.
Dave was told he was man enough to roll pink…
Obviously Lynda rides more.
First ride was Barrel Roll. Pure love all the way!
Nimble, stable, compliant. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Power meter data doesn’t lie. For a bit over a year now I’ve been struggling with a painful paradox…a truism: it’s the short, hard stuff that improves power.
That could certainly be taken out of context cause for sure going long has changed everything about cycling for me, and all for the better. Well mostly. It’s [...]

It was exciting checking in on the live timing at Old Pueblo this year. With 5 athletes and multiple friends circling the course I spent far more time than I probably should have at the computer. Luckily my 2 handsome dinner guests on Saturday evening were just as eager as I was to get lap splits [...]

This is the first President’s Day weekend in a looooog time I haven’t raced myself but I have a ton of athletes all over the country toeing the line this weekend. Exciting armchair racing for me this weekend.
I decided not to race this weekend being the one year anniversary of shattering my collar bone into a [...]

Vision Quest is just around the corner. Never having ridden in the region, it seems like a good idea to figure out what I’m in for. As it turns out SoCal riders post a zillion GPS files of routes, races and training at GeoLadders - the VQ course is up at http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=489.
The first part that [...]

Wesley got his uniform and went to his first scout den meeting tonight.
You buy the blue shirt then have all these wee badges to sew on for pack number and area and what rank scout and what-not. I haven’t got the hang of it all yet. It took me ages to sew all the badges [...]

We’ve had some requests.
What about the “burning one down and ripping around the woods for five or six hours” approach? Anyone want to see my data?
Well no woods here in the desert, but lotsa hills. 70 miles, 5:50, 360 TSS, 0.783 IF. Route: 2.5 Blakes climbs. Uh huh…
The juicy part was the middle 3.5 hours [...]

I was running a little late this afternoon so finished up my ride at the school. It was the first time I have been on a bike too with Emma on hers. Our first mom n’ daughter ride. Awww. That was really cool. She is so cute with her little bike and backpack.
Bikes and big smiles…awwwww….

Emma rode her bike to school today and I ran along beside her. Oh my, that was awesome.. School is 3/4 mile away and is just too much for a groggy 5 year old to walk in the morning. It was a piece of cake for her on a bike this morning. She was all [...]
