Groningen has long stretches of cycle paths.
The economy over here is not rolling that well for everybody, over the years a lot of jobs have been lost. Thus we are a region deserving economical support by the EC. In one form the EC funds cycle paths projects. Which bring work for local construction companies and make the surroundings even more attractive for bike tourists which bring even more work. The cycle-paths are anything from an upgrade of an existing gravel road to a complete new paved track on a new dike through a wetland, including tunnels and bridges. Open next summer.

A couple of years ago this was a gravel (artificial) track. The new pavement does invite more cyclist. Especially on a day like this.
