Le Semnoz
High above Lake Annecy - It's a magnificent and tough climb - and frankly today I suffered near the top. I am not yet fit or light enough for the July Tour d'Enfer. But at least the injury seems almost OK.

Col de Pierre Carrée (Flaine)
Col de Pierre Carrée is a big climb and easily the highest pass in my vicinity that is currently clear of snow. 21.4 kilometres (~13 miles) and 1350 metres (~4500 feet) of climb It starts just a few kms from the Col de la Colombière - but unlike it’s more famous (but [...]

Lost Boys 2008 Tour d’Enfer - Day 6 Preview
Stage 6 will see the Tour d'Enfer climb the mythic Col d'Izoard. Perhaps most famous for the exploits of Fausto Coppi and Louison Bobet. There is a monument near the top to these two Tour legends.

Col de Tréchauffex, Col du Grand Taillet and Col de Corbier
On the way up to Tréchauffex I bumped into a Chamoix - sort of a deer. We eyed each other for a while and then went our separate ways.

Col de la Croix Fry via Col de Plan Bois
Now this is an amazing route! A couple of kilometres from Thones is a turn up a very steep, quiet road to the little-known Col de Plan Bois (not in my cycling bible).

Vallée Verte Five Col Loop
No matter how much you cycle in the Alps, there are always new climbs to explore. Today’s ride took me past 5 Cols, only one of which i knew (and four that were not in my cycling bible). Today was a good example of a [...]

Col des Glieres - West Side
That funny white thing with wings is a giant monument to the French Resistance. Glieres was a major base in WW2 for the Maquis.
